Is the golden compass going to come out with another movie?
Is there going to be a sequence of the golden compass on film. If so when is it to be released. I’m dying to see The Subtle Knife.

    Here are 2 direct quotes…

"'My books are about killing God.' So said Philip Pullman, author of The Golden Compass,

" But if there is a God, and he is as the Christians describe him, then he deserves to be put down and rebelled against. " —Philip Pullman, author of the fantasy series His Dark Materials

I wouldn't give that hatetheist a penny of the money I've had to work to earn! Beside I hear the movie is lousy even from the secular reports. A Polar bear that is one of the heros in a kids movie and drinks Whiskey and gets drunk, have your own demons… sounds like a rather disturbed mind wrote it to me. The brain is like the rest of the body… put junk in it shows… I'll pass on the junk!

Atheists express their rage against God although in their view He does not exist. –C. S. Lewis

yes, should be around Dec 2009 for The Subtle Knife

@nitodaburrito92 The series’ vocabulary is too advanced for children. When Pullman writes about “the church” he portrays them more like the church was in the medieval times than it is now. I wouldn’t worry about The Golden Compass turning anyone against Christianity in the most strict meaning of the term.

  4. @nitodaburrito92 I unsterstand your point, but for me it doesn´t matter if i´m going to heaven when i die, it doesn´t help me to see the world as a better place. i know why people need to believe in god, but doesn´t that make him even more unreal? Isn´t he just this ideal that we created to live a more positive life?
Like Santa Clause. As kids, we liked to believe in him because it made our x-mas even more magical.

This movie is a very good movie that has a little religious controversy in it. (and no, it is not a "killing God" motion picture) They make no reference whatsoever to "kill God". Besides, this takes place in a parallel universe, and in a make-believe book, don't believe everything you see, or read, for that matter. They should enjoy the movie, but not spend their time saying "Oh no!!! The movie does so and so to God, and says so and so to God". It's just a movie. They should watch it, since it is very good, and since it's very good, making it was a very good idea.

I have my doubts as to when/if they’ll do a sequel. It sounds like the studio had real problems with the movie and fought with the director, and it just didn’t make very much money.

  7. @nitodaburrito92 FYI, God is not metaphysical, JS

It is only called a bad book by Christian fundamentalists who have nothing better to do then attack an innocent children's book.

NO. At the end of "The Amber Spyglass," Lyra and Will (the two main characters), happen to find someone trapped in a crystal chariot in the middle of a war. Though the children don't realize it, this character is the Authority, earlier described as the oldest of the angels but NOT the Creator. The Authority is truly ancient – so old and insubstantial that a breeze could blow him apart. Because he's trapped, the children let him out, and that very thing happens – the breeze dissolves him. All of his atoms become a part of the natural world – a part of the trees, the air, the grass, everything. This is shown to be a very positive ending. As he dissolves, he smiles at the children with wonder and delight.

So no, he isn't God, and he isn't killed. He's a very old angel that finally finds peace.

  11. Blog Lyrics says:

@lunalunita09 Yes, he can write about not believing all he wants, but he shouldn’t try hiding it within children’s stories. Does he not have the balls to write an adult book about overthrowing the church?

  12. i read the book and now i’m gonna watch the movie all because i saw her riding that bear in the trailer and i must admit i was a bit jelous i mean who doesn’t wanna ride a polar bear

  13. All knowing says:

As of now they aren't. I was so mad when I found out because I really wanted them to. I guess the books have references to the Catholic church that the church doesn't approve of, so somehow they stopped the filming of the sequel. Look at this website:

I think the whole thing is kinda dumb. The movie is meant to entertain, not to teach and preach.

  14. ANGAD S says:

she had it specially made so you may have to look into getting one made which is quite expensive. hope this helps : )

  15. for all the faults of the movie I must say it was very well cast.

  16. Anonymous says:

@nitodaburrito92 not even then, eternal life in heaven never refers to a singular person, but all of humanity. and heaven, was never metaphysical either. it is simply Outer Space. we were told to not fight over resources, and to care for our planet as we work to reach the heavens before the fires of destruction come to destroy our planet. the only fire coming to destroy earth, is when our sun goes supernova and engulfs all around it. just sayin, things are often exactly as they appear

  17. They're banning it now because it has a real chance to reach the common masses. Before the movie came out, the only people likely to be exposed to it would have been the people who believed in the possibility of the premise in the first place…or at least were open to it.

They're banning it because it's about the quest to "kill God".

The really ironic thing is that by banning it, they're only going to succeed in heightening the curiosity to find out more about it. How many Catholics would never have known about it if there wasn't so much controversy surrounding it now?

  18. Main Topic says:

The trailer looked soo good, but the movie was a real let down. They should have kept the original ending. I’m not sure a remake is the way to go, because this was a really good cast. They should have made the next one soon after, Dakota is too old now for the roll of Lyra :(
